Dear Simon
When I read your Company Handbook I thought all my prayers had been answered. Having worked for various organisations (both large and small)and having run two of my own businesses, as well as living through two mergers and a buyout, I believe I have a fairly good insight into what makes a business tick. While I've long felt the way you do, I've never really been able to express it as well as you do. All I know is that interference and hierachical thinking is a sure recipe for disaster. John Cowperthwaite, a young colonial officer sent to Hong Kong in 1945 to oversee the colony's recovery, subscribed to your philosophy and as a result Hong Kong thrived. While I agree with everything you say, there is just one area I would like you to expand on and that is the issue of remuneration. We are about to start a new venture which would look very much like your business model, but we are wrestling with the matter of parity payment. I am of the view that, as equal partners, the founding members should be remunerated on an equal basis. Some of my partners (there are five of us) beg to differ. I just feel that the moment one earns more than the other, it immediately introduces a pecking order. What do you think?
We are going to debate this issue next week, so I would appreciate it if you could get back to me as soon as possible.
Well done!

Modern Technology Is Responsible For Today's World Turmoil in Latin America
After watching news programs recently I have also switched to Spanish speaking channels and one thing immediately caught my attention. On the English channels, we see very little about the chaos in Latin America, but it is a very different picture when watching news on the Spanish channels. Here we can see rebel forces fighting government militaries to protest the corruption of many of these same governments. One has to ask ourselves why this is. Could it be that America does not feel that these issues will have some type of negative impact upon our country?
In addition, to address these issues a number of organizations from America have sent computers and other technologies to improve access to the Internet to students of all ages living in Latin America. However, the computers are of little value since the students do not know how to use the technology as well as there are no phone lines or electricity in many small villages that prohibit access to the Internet. To have a truly positive impact on the citizens of Latin America using technology, we must assist these countries in providing the essential training of the technology as well as ensuring the proper infrastructures are also available (i.e. electricity and phone lines). Countries that do not share their technology and knowledge may some day follow the path of Ancient Rome even though they are the technology leaders of the world.
